I work primarily in mixed media, creating nonrepresentational artworks and hand-crafted items that are assembled from various hand-painted papers, foils and paints. By repeatedly cutting, tearing and re-assembling the elements of the art, a multi-dimensional, layered appearance is achieved.
My art and hand-crafted items reflect the lives we create, as we continually add, subtract and rearrange the many parts of our being: The result is something surprisingly beautiful, assembled from seemingly imperfect elements.
Saturated colors, bold lines, evocative shapes and organic textures: These qualities typify the artwork you'll see here. My hope is that you'll be delighted and inspired by my work, and see the world around you through a new lens.
I'm proud to be affiliated with the Flourish and HandmadeMN Etsy teams. I'm also a member of Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts, where I sell some of the items featured here. Support the arts in your community!
Tissues and acrylics on a paper mache base. Once I achieve an appealing effect through layering and composition, I apply a sealant to create a matte luster, and keep the various elements in place.
Shadow box, mixed media
This black shadow box measures about 8' x 10". Various sizes of circles are threaded together with copper-toned wire and teal floss, and presented against a background of lightly textured black paper, burlap and hand-decorated paper. The circles were created from fall leaves, layered tissue papers and hand-painted papers. The depth offered by the shadow box allows the circles to be presented in three dimensions, offering depth, shadow and additional visual interest. The piece may be hung on the wall, or presented on a shelf or table.
